Step 1 - Disconnecting Factory LED Board
Note: Headlights must be opened before proceeding with installation. This process can be completed by heating and prying the lens from the housing. We recommend viewing example videos online to understand the process; however, professional installation is strongly recommended. Please contact Diode Dynamics if you need assistance locating an installer.
Remove the lens from the headlamp. Disconnect the factory LED board by pressing on the white clip and pulling it straight back. Set the back of the headlamp assembly aside.
Step 2 - Remove Heatsink
Looking at the lens assembly, remove the four screws holding the heat sink to the black inner shroud.
Remove the heatsink from the assembly by pulling up on the inner shroud and then pulling straight up on the heatsink to release it. Set the heatsink aside.
Step 3 - Installing New LED Board
Remove the factory LED board and replace it with your new Diode Dynamics LED board using the same alignment pins. Be sure the LED chips are facing down.
Reinstall the heatsink using the same alignment holes and replace the four original screws.
Run the wires through the dust cap in the headlamp, sealing any holes you may create. Once complete, replace the headlamp lens and repeat for your other headlamp.
Step 4 - Powering Your LED Board
Connect the LED board to the RGBW driver. Then connect the driver to a Diode Dynamics LED controller (sold separately). See the diagram below.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT plug the LED panel directly into the controller without the driver. The LEDs must be plugged into the driver first to control the power.
Connect your controller to 12V power and ground. This will dictate when the panels turn on. The most popular wiring choice is listed in the table below.
Mount drivers and controllers, and tuck all wires. Drivers should be mounted outside of the headlight for serviceability, in a location away from the engine block to avoid excessive heat buildup.
Test thoroughly, reseal the headlight, and reinstall onto the vehicle.
